(NHS)
The Arthur Hill Chapter of the National Honor Society
was established in 1930 with twenty-six members. Membership
is based on scholarship, character, and service. To
become an active member or candidate of the NHS, a
student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with
a cumulative semester grade point average (GPA) of
3.0 or better. After the candidate completes 100 hours
of community service, he/she is inducted into the NHS
chapter in the spring at the annual Honors Assembly.
At Senior Recognition Night and Commencement ceremony,
NHS students wear the NHS collar over the blue and
gold cap and gown. Candidates are welcomed to attend
the monthly meeting but it is not mandatory. Community
service opportunities are posted by Ms. Coleman’s
office across from the Media Center. Advisors for NHS
are:
Ms. Richardson, Mrs. Nichols, and Mrs. Coleman
Hello Everyone!
The National Honor Society is alive & well this 2009-2010
school year! Currently there are 125 students who qualify
with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above. Students' parents
have received a letter of notification in the mail. Students
must also meet required volunteer service hours, code
of conduct, and other NHS requirements in order to be
inducted into the AHHS Chapter and be recognized at the
annual AHHS Honors Assembly in the spring.
This year's NHS Advisors are: Sharon Coleman, Jason
LaPorte, and Joanne Nichols. On Wednesday, Nov. 4, there
will be a meeting at 10:30 am for students who qualify.
See posted student lists grades 10-12. (An announcement
will be made.) This will be the only meeting during instruction
time this semester. All other meetings will be held before
and after school for the remainder of the year.
Please encourage students to participate in
NHS. Participation
in NHS promotes a quality school culture in the areas
of academic achievement, leadership, character, and service
to the community in and out of school.
A special Thank You to this year's advisors and everyone
else for your continued support.
