The Birth-Five Program’s Parent Educators are certified in the Parents As Teachers curriculum. These Parent Educators bring fun activities for parents to do with their child. It’s a great time for families to get down on the floor and play (learn) together. Each time a Parent Educator visits a home, she/he is preparing a child to be READY FOR SCHOOL. This includes making certain immunizations are current.
Generally home visits occur once per month. Families determined to be at-risk for child abuse & neglect or educational failure may be seen two to four times per month.
Lessons focus on the five areas of development. Parents periodically assess their child’s development using the Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQs). Those areas are: Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Personal Social, Problem Solving, and Communication. The Parent Educator evaluates the results of the ASQ. If a delay is indicated, supplemental activities may be given to the parents. A hearing evaluation may be suggested. A significant delay may result in a referral to Project Find for a comprehensive evaluation. |
