The Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQs) are a nationally recognized tool used to monitor development starting at age four months. They will familiarize parents with appropriate development for their child’s age. The ASQs focus on the following five areas of development:
Communication addresses person to person interaction: babbling, talking, listening.
Gross Motor focuses on large muscle movements: body, legs, and arms: sitting, standing, creeping, crawling, walking, running, jumping.
Fine Motor pertains to fine muscle movements (hands & fingers): reaching, banging, stacking, coloring, passing a toy from one hand to another.
Problem Solving addresses thinking skills: figuring out how to get things, identifying pictures/objects, learning & playing with toys, copying from a model (vertical & horizontal lines, circles).
Personal-Social focuses on person to person interaction, feeding skills & dressing: asking for help, copying from a model, feeding self, dressing self, toilet learning skills. |
