Birth-Five Program

The Ages & Stages              Questionnaires (ASQs) are a   nationally recognized tool used to monitor development starting at age four months. They will       familiarize parents with                  appropriate development  for their child’s age. The ASQs focus on the  following five areas of                 development:

 

Communication addresses person to person  interaction:  babbling, talking,   listening.     

 

Gross Motor focuses on large muscle movements: body, legs, and arms:  sitting, standing, creeping, crawling, walking,   running, jumping.

 

Fine Motor pertains to fine muscle movements (hands & fingers):  reaching, banging, stacking,  coloring, passing a toy from one hand to another.

 

Problem Solving addresses thinking skills:  figuring out how to get things, identifying         pictures/objects, learning &  playing with toys, copying from a model (vertical & horizontal lines, circles).

 

Personal-Social focuses on person to person interaction, feeding skills & dressing:  asking for help, copying from a model, feeding self, dressing self, toilet learning skills.
