21st Century Community Learning Center

 

 

 

The purpose of the 21st Century Grants are to:

 

  • Provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students, particularly students who attend high-priority schools, to meet state and local student performance standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and mathematics.
  • Offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, art, music, recreation programs, technology education programs, and character education programs, that are designed to reinforce and complement the academic program of participating students
  • Offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for literacy and related educational development

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Philosophy

 

A vision of building community partnerships and thereby improving the lives of our youth and their families through learning, enrichment and recreation…the program will:

  • Provide an increase opportunity for youth and their families to participate in enriching activities;
  • Increase student achievement in the areas of reading and math, in a well supervised learning environment, staffed by caring, competent, and supportive adults;
  • Reduce the risk factors students encounter by focusing on positive youth development, leadership, service learning opportunities, conflict resolution activities, and programs such as life skills;
  • To provide opportunities for the development of youth in the areas of health and nutrition; recreation, technology and global cultural awareness.

 

 

 

 

 

Types of Programs and Services Offered

 

 

  • Academic Support – tutoring supervised by a certified teacher
  • Enrichment- interactive activities that increase student skill levels in reading and math
  • Family Support- after school food service, safe environment, Family fun night, child care licensing
  • Academic Instruction- Reading, Writing, and Math standards taught by Certified Teachers
  • Character Education- positive mentoring about values and attitudes
  • Prevention Services-provide ATOD/V awareness to develop positive decision making skills
  • Technology- opportunity for students to gain computer skills
  • Recreational-fun activities
