Saginaw Youth Sports Code of Ethics For Volunteer Coaches
1. I will treat each individual (player,
opposing coach, official, parent and administrator) with respect and dignity.
2. I will do my best to learn the fundamental
skills, rules, teaching techniques and strategies of my sport.
3. I understand that the first and foremost
premise of the youth sports program is participation, therefore:
• All children who wish to play should be
allowed to participate.
• The game is not about winning, but about
learning the sport.
• The number one goal of sports is to ensure
that students have fun.
4. I will uphold the authority of officials who
are assigned to the contests in which I coach, and I will assist them in every way
to conduct a fair and impartial competitive contest.
5. I will learn the strengths and weaknesses of
my players in order that I might place them into situations where they have a
maximum opportunity to achieve success.
6. I will conduct my practices and games so
that all players have an opportunity to improve their skill level through
active participation.
7. I will communicate to my players and their
parents/guardians the rights and responsibilities of individuals on my team.
8. I will cooperate with administrators,
building principals and program staff in the enforcement of deadlines, team
fees and any rules and regulations.
9. I pledge to remain drug, alcohol and
tobacco free, while working with my team and I further pledge to promote
the drug free policies of the School District with my team.
10. I will protect the health and safety of my
players by insisting that all activities under my control are conducted for
their psychological and physiological welfare, rather than for the vicarious
interests of adults.
Please sign on the information part of this form to indicate your willingness to abide by this Code of Ethics.
