Dear Trojan Family: As we begin a new school year, I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself as Principal of Saginaw High School. As a 1988 graduate of Saginaw High School, I am truly honored and excited by the opportunity to lead the staff and students to a new chapter in the school's history. As you may or may not know, I returned to Saginaw High School as a science and math teacher in 1997 after graduating from Michigan State University. In addition to teaching at SHS, my extended career opportunities include serving as the Varsity Pom Pon coach, staff mentor and Assistant Principal for Pupil Personnel as well as Curriculum and Instruction. As a former student and graduate of Saginaw Public Schools, the offer to become Principal of Saginaw High School is a very special honor. You have my pledge to work passionately on behalf of the students, families and staff of the district. Professionally, I am dedicated to helping "inspire all students to achieve personal excellence, pursue world-class standards and be self-directed, lifelong learners." It is my personal mission to ensure that everyone recognizes the urgent need to focus students on the requirements for fulfillment, success and happiness in our 21st century. Our students are expected to balance academic achievement, have technology and communication skills, participate and service the community along with the social and personal demands of being a high school student in 2008. As a community, we must ensure that they have all of the necessary tools to be competitive in this ever changing society. I invite you to share in our mission to ensure a safe and academic environment where all students will become academically proficient, life long learners and productive citizens. We need every student to participate actively in all of the academic and extra-curricular programs we offer to make Saginaw High School the best it can be. Colleges and post-secondary career choices will depend heavily on each student's participation and personal success. Communication is critically important to a successful high school experience. I encourage everyone to initiate, maintain and respond to communication about students and school. I will work hard to know every student, and I challenge each student and family to build a solid record of academic success and participation. I look forward to creating new chapters in Saginaw High School's history. Visit our web site regularly throughout the year and please call the school with any concerns you might have (989) 399-6000. I look forward to seeing you at some of the many activities that are scheduled throughout the year, and thank you, again, for your support of Saginaw High School. Sincerely,
Latoya Summey Principal
