At the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year the Saginaw Public Schools introduced a new Ninth Grade Academy concept for the incoming ninth grade class. The theory behind the new concept is to help the ninth grade students that are coming in adjust and get a good start at the high school level.
As the state has changed subject content expectations SHS has also. We are in the process of developing tests for each unit in all core subject areas. These tests are written in the same format as the ACT and MME tests that the eleventh grade students take in the spring of each year. Eventually the state will have these tests also. The goal is to better educate our students to meet the demands of high school and post secondary education.
We are in our fifth year of the Ninth Grade Academy. We have made my positive steps with this initiative. We are continually reviewing and making changes as needed to better serve our students as they come into the high school setting. Parent support is very important and we encourage all parents to find out what their students did at school during the day.
